Sarah Parvin Rowe Allen's mother was a Stockton
Since I was in grade school I remember my grandmother saying that we were related to Richard Stockton who signed the Declaration on Independence. I have been looking into this off and on since the 1990s. Well, it had been under my nose since 2001 and I did not realize it until several weeks ago. I was going through some info that my Aunt had left me when I found a very old obit that was hard to read. However, I will do my best and hope someone can make a connection.
Let me first state that Sarah P. Rowe was the daughter of Daniel Row and Elizabeth Unkown last name. They made their home in Lancaster County, Pa. To the best of my knowledge Daniel is listed as being born in Pa. and Elizabeth has census listings as Pa. and N.J. Both Daniel and Elizabeth were born around 1795....give or take a year or two. This obit may have been from a Baltimore, Md. paper.
Sarah married Lewis Allen from York County. Nathaniel D. R. Allen listed in the obit is her son. The D.R. may be Daniel Rowe (for her dad). Towson referred to in the obit is in Baltimore County, Maryland.
OBIT....
Sarah Parvin Allen died at the home of her son N.D.R. Allen, Towson Sunday morning at 10 o'clock in the 82nd year of her age, after an illess of about three weeks. The first states of her illness was caused by dispepsis, which aggravated other troubles and finally left her in a weakened condition, and owing to advanced age, she was unable to rally and died as above stated.
Mrs. Allen was born in Strasburg, Lancaster County, Pa., April 23, 1821. Her maided name was Rowe and her mother was a Stockton of New Jersey, a relative of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence by that name.
The remainder of this article is almost completely missing except for the date 1818 followed by...what looks like SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE. Remember the 1818 was not her date of birth it was 1821.
Sarah Allen died December 28, 1902.
This probably means that my Daniel Row/Rowe was married to Elizabeth Stockton and their daughter was Sarah Parvin Rowe Allen. Incidently, Sarah is buried in Fawn Grove Friends Cemetery in Fawn Grove, York County, Pa. along with her husband Lewis Allen. Their children were Amy Stockton Allen, Nathaniel D. R. Allen, Mary R. Allen and Sarah E. Allen.
My line is...
I am Henrietta LINDA Frew Zinger, the daughter of Miles Eckman Frew and Henrietta Katherine Wagner, Always used the name Linda through life....never Henrietta..
Miles Eckman Frew was the son of James Edgar Frew and Laura Viola Eckman
Laura Viola Eckman was the daughter of James Martin Eckman and Anna Elnora Myers
Anna Elnora Myers was the daughter of Jacob Myers and Mary B. Row/Rowe.
Mary B. Row was the daughter of Daniel Row and Eliabeth Stockton and the sister of Sarah Parvin Row.
Hope someone can help me tie Elizabeth to the Stockton's of New Jersey as the obit state. I will inform this genforum if I find the answer first.
