The earliest proven ancestor of the Royse lines sired by Aaron b. 1734, John b. 1725 and Daniel b. 1726-1731 is Moses b. 6 Jun 1700 according to Aaron's 1806 letter to his granddaughter Mary Royse Core.It is certainly possible that Moses' father was one of the three brothers you mentioned. If true, that would absolutely sever any link to the Robert Royce of Stamford and New London, CT.There is also an unproven report, source unkown to me, that states Moses' father was the sole surviving member of his family that sailed from Wales to VA on a ship that was delayed for six months due to weather. He 14 years old at the time and was sold into an indentured apprenticeship for 14 years to pay for his and his family's passage or so the story goes.I really would like to find out the source for this story to determine how likely it is to be true.Personally I like the idea of the three brothers arriving in the early 1700s as it would explain why there is no record of Moses' birth on 6 Jun 1700 in the colonial records. The brother who setteld in NY would be Moses' father. If there were two other brothers in MD and VA there should be some type of records to show that.
Getting back to Robert of CT, there is no evidence to support the surname of his wife Mary as being Sims, and no evidence to support the claimed marriage date of 4 Jun 1634 in Martok or any other Somersetshire parish. If such evidence exists I would love to see it.There is a marriage between a Robert Rayce and a Mary Syms dated 4 Jun 1624 in Long Sutton. This is listed in the records among other 1624 marriages and so is not that of Robert and Mary of CT.
Robert and Mary had seven children in all:
Sarah m. John Caulkins Jonathan m. 1) Mary Spinning (Spinnage) 2) Debaorah Caulkins Nehemiah m. Hannha Morgan Samuel b. 1 Nov 1644 m. 1) Hannah Churchill 2) Sarah Baldwin Ruth b. 7 Dec 1645 m. 1) John Lathrop 2) Abraham Doolittle Nathaniel b. 24 Apr 1647 m. 1) Esther Moss 2) Sarah Lathrop 3) Hannah Wilcoxson 4) Abigail Cooke 5) Phebe Clark Isaac b. abt 1648 m. Elizabeth Lathrop
John and Sarah (Perigo) Royce had 10 children. The births of the first 8 are recorded in the Windham, CT Vital Records and the youngest 2 in the Mansfield, CT Vital Records. In 1703, Tolland County was formed out of Windham County. The area where John and Sarah lived became the town of Mansfield. John died 29 Mar or Nov 1724 in Mansfield. In 1710, 1711, 1712 and 1717 he was Selectman of Mansfield.
Furhter confusions exists as there was also a Robert Royce/Rice in Boston with wife Elizabeth. He died about 1650 and his widow married Miles Tarne. This Robert and Elizabeth had three children:
Patience b. and d. 1632 Joshua b. 14 Apr 1637 Nathaniel b. 1 Apr 1639
Of the two sons it appears that only Joshua lived to marry and this family mostly used the Rice spelling.
As an aside, Royce, Royse, Roys and Rice are all found referring frequently to the same individuals and sometimes you see these variant spellings in the same document.
