I believe Belle Rule to be the daughter of Thomas Rule, b. 1809 KY, d. 1881 CO, and his second wife, Eliza Jane Gray, b. 1837 VA, d. 1864 Jackson Co., MO.Thomas's first wife died in 1854 in Jackson Co. MO, and he had several children by her. (Her name was Clarrisa Pence). Then he married Eliza Jane and had three children before she died...Samuel, Dicy, and Belle. He was wealthy, I believe a slave owner, owned a lot of land, but Order #11 and the border warfare between Kansas and Missouri caused him to leave the Jackson Co. MO area...I did not realize he went to Kansas (if he was indeed a slave owner...so I might be wrong about that), but he died in Custer Co., CO.I have copies of papers that have Eliza Jane's name, as well as Samuel, Dicy, and Belle Rule's names in them as grandchildren of Edward Gray's will (1869).Eliza Jane's brother, William "Lee" Gray, is my great-great grandfather. He supposedly would not talk about Eliza because of some scandel, so I have looked for her for several years, piecing together what had happened to her.Probably the difference in age of about 30 years was upsetting to the Gray family, who can tell now. I was surprised to find her buried with her parents and another brother, James Ira Gray, in Blue Ridge Cemetary in Jackson Co., MO.Only recently did I figure out her last name was "Rule" when she died, from the will I found.I think we are talking about the same Belle.I will look into more of my files for more details if you would like. This gets so lengthy so just use my e-mail.Beverly Land
