Apparently there is pretty good evidence that Katrina (Catrina) Huyken was the wife of Stephen Jansen. Here is a quote from a post to the New Netherlands listserv:
"Finally, it has been ascertained through compelling circumstancial evidence that the wife of Steven Janszen Van Voorhees was not Catrina VAN DUYN (as suggested by Albert L. Stokes in "The Van Voorhees Family: The First Four Generations", 1984 or in Florence A. Christoph's 2000 voluminous update of Stokes' earlier work, "The Van Voorhees Family in America; the first six generations" -- a compilation done for the Van Voorhees Family Association.
Rather, she was Catrina Huyken, the daughter of Willem Huyken and Annetje Andries (Wilyard) of Brooklyn. Please see the archives (for Jan 2003) of our companion list Dutch-Colonies for a lengthy discussion regarding this issue."
I have not looked into this matter much, but a search of the New Netherlands listserv archives (available through Rootsweb) might turn up more of what the evidence is.
I have not been able to progress further with my research into Gertruy's identity -- despite many hours of research, I can't find the origin of the undocumented claim that she was a Stevense (or at least that Stevense was her patronymic).Loads of people claim that, without source, but no one seems to know where the claim came from.I've changed her to "Gertruy ___" on my database, and put in copious notes explaining the situation, but this seems to be a case where the documentation simply may not exist.
I do think that the _likeliest_ scenario is that Gertruy was the daughter of Steven and Catrina, but nothing I've found makes that anything more than an appealing guess.
If you find anything further, do let me know -- Gertruy is one of my most wanted!
