Not all the Ruoffs went to the USA. Louis Ruoff, born 1826 in Welzheim, Wurtemburg, a Professor of Languages, came to the UK around 1861 to Reading in Berkshire. He married Rosa Fox from Coddenham in Suffolk and fathered seven children including Francis Hermann Ruoff (b. 1876) who became a pharmacist. He married Gertrude Lackey, one of 12 children ofDaniel Lackey, a Captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps. They had three children, Neville b. 1911, Margaret b. 1917 and Francis Gordon Hermann Ruoff born 1913 (my uncle). A Naval officer, he was an observer at the Yalta Conference in WW2. FGH Ruoff married Betty Doreen Harvey and they had two boys, Christopher and Richard, still extant, and they in turn produced a son and a daughter respectively, both married but as yet with no male descendants. Professor Louis Ruoff died in 1907.
