I have recently found out that a relative has a Ydna link (a very close match at 32 markers...possibly being only 1 number off at a rapidly mutating marker to boot...otherwise an exact match at 32 markers), anyway, their family claims to be from Wurttemberg, Germany area as does our Kaufmann relative (only they spell their name a bit differently, but family tradition says that the "K" spelling was the original), anyway, our family line came from the Black Forest region of Wurttemberg too and sailed out of Rotterdam, Holland in 1752 for SC where their branch settled. I noticed several families there of the surname RUFF and ROOF and wondered if they might not be deviations of the surname RUOFF? Finding these names in our relatives Kaufmann family tree along with the shared Ydna of a Kaufmann-Ruoff marriage, seems to indicate that our two families back in Wurttemberg were closely related. Our relatives were also Lutheran. Thank you for any further info about these families.
