RUSHING RELATIONSHIP WITH GRAHAMs OF PERRY/ DECATUR CO, TN
There are a lot of evidence that Grahams are connected to Elijah & Sarah Lowry and with their offspring, when John Graham b 1792 NC married Lydia PERRY Rushing age 16 in 1814 in Rutherford Co, TN near home of John Graham of Warren Co, TN neighbors to their preacher Rev Hollis.
Lydia acknowledged that before she married in 1814 and came to AL in 1817 that her family was from Hardin Co, TN but Hardin co was not est until after 1819, and Decatur Co was formed from parts of Hardin Co and Perry Co in 1845 from Stewart Co.
Before 1814 the only known Rushing in Decatur/ Perry Co were Burrell, Elijah found on 1810 on Elk Creek /River and Phillip d bef 1814. Based upon news article John Graham killed a buffalo on Elk Creek in 1820.
I assume these earlier Decatur Co settlers were brothers as Burl the senior sold land to his brother(?Elijah) who appears to be a son of William of Thompson Creek Anson Co, and owned land on Black Fork Creek per deed, and he and Sarah sold land there in 1831. Elijah was noted to own land next to Phillip in Anson Co, NC but which Phillip.
Elijah's son Burrell b 1821 AL acquired this land in 1840s after Elijah died. Elijah also received 150 acres from William abt 1800 in NC. Sold in 1809 50 acres to Wm Smith, wit by Rueben White.William & Elizabeth gave slave to Lydia Rushing in 1799 and other slaves inherited from the estate settlement in 1831 to Elijah & Sarah Lowry who was Elizabeth's daughter.
Most of evidence is found in Elijah's offspring John Perry Rushing who married Mary Jane Brashers b 1821 Perry Co, d/o Walter Brasher son of John Brashers b 1760 of Randolph Co, NC who was with Capt John Graham b 1760 Randolph Co of Bedford/ Warren Co, TN and both Brasher & Graham were in same unit at battle of Guilford courthouse in 1780.
John Perry Rushing reportedly buried in Boone Co, Ark in same place my great grandmother was buried in 1914. Mary Jane Rushing reportedly lived over 100 years and died aft 1921 buried there.
Why my G/G mother b 1832 in Fulton, MS went there after husband died AL 1897, residing near kindred of her mother Lydia is unknown, as no other known Grahams were found there in the county.
Another Brasher daughter Hannah Brasher married Wm R Rushing b 1818 Perry / Decatur Co, son of Elijah & Sarah Lowry. In Bedford Co also was Millie identified with her father Elijah, and Burrell's sister, Frances born 1800 who married in Perry Co, Hutchins Ussery of Bedford Co, TN and I don't know of Joseph Rushing /Deason of Bedford in Perry Co before 1820 to be her father. But Ussery's family were there from Bedford to Perry Co & listed as first settlers. Some have tried to tie Lydia with John or Joseph of Bedford, but there is no obvious connections.
Several Graham of Decatur Co, TN are buried with the Rushing at Campground Cem in Decaturville, TN. Sarah McGirk Graham d 1883 d/o James P Graham, d 1852 Hardin Co, TN, Richard A Graham d 1867 rel to John Anthony Rains nephew of John Graham, and Wm Graham d 1859. Not able to place these Grahams, except a Richard was also neighbor of John Graham in Warren Co, with a William, maybe brothers.
A John Graham was apt 1821-1824 Warren Co State Rep to 14th Gen Assembly and in 1827 in Perry Co to the 17th. His son Charles b 1792 on committee which formed Perry Co, sold land for Courthouse. Burrell son of Elijah sold land for courthouse in Decatur Co.
In Roane Co, TN was John Brashers, John Graham h/o Mary Looney d 1823, Capt John Looney her brother and John Johnson with two daughters who married Looney brothers of John & Mary Looney, to Warren Co, TN and John Graham 1808 settled with Rains his brother in laws next to Looney, including Asahel Rains son of George and Rosannah Graham, and Asahel was a deputy surveyor of John Graham, an Attorney, Judge of the county. John Graham was Attorney in White Co, when formed in 1807 to Warren and first settler with with neighbor Asahel Rains born Randolph Co, NC.
John Graham son in laws, John Lucky Houston, attorney married dau Jane Graham in Warren Co, TN & their dau Sarah Jane Houston & son John Graham Houston b 1824 in Warren Co also a surveyor for 30 years, mirgrated to Perry Co, TN and there dau Sarah Jane married Burrell Rushing son of Elijah & Sarah Lowry.
Another son in law John King Rayburn marries Elizabeth Graham in Warren Co, to TX becomes a surveyor Fed Marshall and with Charles Graham his BIL who married his daughter.
John King Rayburn Fed Marshall of MS and John Graham of TN survey the bouundry of MS and TN at Memphis in 1837, John Graham Jr and a Rains assistant with John King Rayburn in Panola MS with Jane Martin Ussery mother in law of Preston P Rains who married her dau Nancy Ussery in TX.
John Graham's descendants, with John Rains, Asahel Rains his neighbors of Warren Co their sons and daughter first settlers with Elijah Rushing offsprings in Natchitoches LA and Isaac Rushing of Decatur Co after 1844.
John Graham & Matthew Milachi Rushing likely surveying in Scott Co, MS, Jackson MS aa both receive land Grants there and both in Jacksonville, Gainsville FL with Land grants per Fed Land Commissioners. Next town West of Jackson MS then was Natchitochis, LA where a plantation of John Graham was established. Also LA was like parts of Western Mississippi during this time was considered then West Florida, a colony, and Gainesville FL may then be Gainesville, LA a town known then near Natchitoches.
My Great Uncle, a grandson of Lydia was in TX died 1888 in Fanning Co and 2 sons of John & Lydia to Texas one settled near Tyler, TX and died there just West across the river from LA not far from Ussery and Frances Rushing son Martin Ussery and Jane Martin who came there from Giles Co, TN with James R Graham and his family formerly of Franklin Co, TN. In Natchitoches is a grandson of Frances Rushing sister of Burrell, named Burrell Rushing Ussery after his grandfather.
Elijah & Sarah named a son E R Chambers, Initial only (? for Elijah Rushing Chambers) and likely from a Chambers who married a Brasher. My uncle was named E R (initial only) Noah Graham.
