My great-grandmother was a Rylander, and I can confirm that our family comes from southern Sweden. Specifically, they lived near a town called Payrd in Kalmar Municipality.
I base this claim on a series of 20 letters written from Andrew P. Rylander and his wife, Augusta Gustafsdotter to one of his sons who emigrated to America in the 1870s. The son who received the letters was my great-grandfather, and this branch of the Rylander family settled in Stark County, Illinois. Based on the content of the letters, I know there was at least one other son who emigrated, and I would be interested in connecting with anyone else who might be have information about him. I know there are other Rylanders in census records around that area, but my great-grandfather had only daughters, so I'm assuming his brother settled nearby, and it is his family I am finding.
