We spoke earlier on this list when I outlined my wife's RYMAN ancestry and I am now wondering how you and others are progressing on the Oxford ancestors of this family.
My first communication on the list read as follows:
Janice, my wife, is the daughter of Norma Valmai Slack, nee Ryman. Janice's mum was the grandaughter of Thomas Ryman(Jnr) who emmigrated to Australia with his parents Thomas and Susan Ryman, who were assisted free settlers.
Thomas Ryman (Jnr) was born at Ross, in Herefordshire, circa 1853, and baptised at North Hinksey on 19 March 1854. His parents departed London on 10 Mar 1855 as assisited migrants aboard the barque "Libertas", a ship of 602 ton under the command of Captain Dobson. When Thomas and his parents left for Australia, his grand parents were both alive and living at Ferry, North Hinksey, Berkshire. On the voyage out they were accompanied by 251 other passengers. Thomas arrived in Newcastle on 28th June, 1855, aged 2years. His parents appear to have first settled at Stoney Creek, near Maitland, where they lived until at least 1861. The family moved next to Singleton and then Quirindi N.S.W. From there they spread to the Wollongong and central N.S.W. areas an Janice in Queensland.
This family is traceable back to Thomas Ryman & Elizabeth Whatbee who married in the church of St Michael Great Tew on 26 Nov 1615.
We and others in Australia & N.Z. are researching this family and we greatly appreciate the efforts of Julian Rogers who is researching the family in Oxfordshire.
As for me, well my paternal grandmother, Rose Hannah Bird, nee HUBBARD came from Coleshill in neighbouring Warwickshire.
