Have you tried Rachaiya or Kfeir? They are in the same region of Lebanon near Mt. Hermon. My husband's family has many branches of Saads (or Sa'ad) in the family which actually generating from the same common ancestor if you go back far enough. To date, we do know that some came from Rachaiya and others from Kfeir.
As for ports, most of what I have seen so far are many Syrian immigrants leaving a French port headed to Sao Paulo, Brazil, Mexico, or even Canada. A number of family members here crossed the border in Mexico. It took many weeks to months to travel from the Lebanon area to France, of course. Hope that helps.
