John Sachs (1799-1883) marr. Anna Barbara Meng (1801-1881), and emigrated in 1848 from Schnellmanshausen, Kreiss Muhlhausen, Thuringia (then Prussia) to the Hespler area in Ontario, Canada.Several other Sachs families can be found in the early histories of this region. My GG Grandfather, Conrad Sachs Marr: Rosena Schlegel in 1856, and moved to homestead in Carrick Twp., Bruce Co.
Although my family stayed in Ontario, many of my G Grandmother's brothers:Charlie, Henry, George, Billie, Albert, and sister Mary Smith moved to the US:Michigan, New York, andConneticut.(Minnie Shiffley moved to Kitchener, and Eliza Dickison stayed in Carrick)
In particular, I am interested in the history of this family, and making contact with anyone reseaching the above lines, or the Sachs/Meng families in Thuringia.Although I can locate the town of Schnellmanshausen, I have not been able to findrecords, and wonder if the town even had a Church.
Note:I caution anyone using histories of the Hespler/Pine Bush area for tracing these Sachs families.A large number of first generation cousins are confused to be brothers.Census records would indicate at least three different Sachs families in 1851.
