Perhaps someone can help.My ggrandfather had two sisters, one Margaret A who was shown as 11 on the 1850 census of Laurens County,SC & Nancy A. who was shown as 9 on that census.
They moved to NC sometime after the 1850 census,I found on the Montgomery County,NC genweb where a Margret Ann Lewis married William Morris in 1858 in Montgomery County, NC.
I have a copy of a letter from John Martin Overton, the brother-in-law on my ggrandfather, to Aunt Fannie Lewis, , John Martin Overton's niece. It was written in 1917.He lived at Mt. Gilead in Montgomery County. He writes that there weren't too many Lewis's around but she had an aunt living in Troy.
A cousin pulled up the Nancys in Montgomery County in 1920 and Nancy Safley living in the home of Sam Morris was the age closest to my ggrandfather's sister. It indicates she was Sam Morris' mother but we believe she was his mother-in-law.
Then I found George & Nancy Safley in Stanly County,NC in 1880 living next to William MOrris and his wife. Mary. Now it could be the census taker put down the wrong name, or he might have abbreviated Margaret as Marg. Also, Margaret might have been dead.
