I have also been researching the Saks line, specifically those coming from Riga, Latvia (which was Russia before 1918) as my great grandfather Harris Saks was born there in the 1860s/70s. He married Frances Abrahams (originally from South Africa) and moved to England (although he may have moved to England before marrying her, I am unsure on this) and they had one son that I know of, Philip Saks- my grandfather. Assuming that all of those with the surname Saks in Riga, Latvia are related somehow, I have done some research and found four people with the surname Saks on passenger lists of ships going to Ellis Island, NY who listed their home as Riga, Latvia/Russia. The first, Chane (unsure of spelling) Saks came in 1906, aged 53 and widowed. Then in 1908, a Feitel Saks, aged 30, arrived. In 1922, both Ekel and Schmules Saks (aged 27 and 25 respectively) arrived on the same ship, so I assume that they were brothers or cousins. However, after this I am unsure what happened to any of them. Ekel and Schmules Saks listed a George Saks in Philadelphia as the person they were going to stay with, but that's all I know. I would love to find out more about the family since then, perhaps Hans Paul Saks was related to one of the four I found, or even my great grandfather? Contact me if you find any more information!
