Thank you for your quick reply.I am intrigued about the identity of Catherine Broaddus, wife of William Dandridge Puller. Was the Richard Broaddus you refer to the Richard who was the son of Thomas and Ann (Redd) Broaddus? He moved various times, probably because he was a minister and school teacher. In 1795 he married Amenia (Ellerson) Jeter, widow of Samuel Jeter, in Amelia Co.In 1798 he paide 1,000 pounds for 486 acres in Nottoway Co., but he apparently did not move there, for while living in Amelia Co. he sold this land in 1800 for 550 pounds. The next year he was living in Richmond, when he is listed as guardian for his step son, Tilman Jeter. In 1820 his widow was living in Caroline Co., and he is referred to as "her late husband."None of this evidence rules out a move to King William Co. in 1801, although his death would have been long before 1828.Richard had four daughters, according to Andrew Broaddus - Elizabeth, Nancy, Lucy and Maria. He had step daughters (Samuel's will mentioned four, but I do not have all their names, so perhaps there was one named Catherine, who was not a Broaddus but may have been thought of one because of her step father).
There is also an obscure Richard Broadus (a brother of the much better known James, William and Thomas Broadus of Culpeper Co.).He may never have moved to Culpeper, but whether he married and had children, I do not know.
The only other Richard Broaddus I know of living at the time we are looking at married in Albemarle Co. and moved soon after that with his father to Kentucky.
There is another possibility worth looking at to identify Catherine, and that is Catherine Gatewood, third wife of John W. Broaddus (a son of Thomas and Ann Broaddus). He died in 1836, and she did not die until 1852.I do not know whether she married again, and I do not have a copy of the Caroline Co. marriage records for women named Broaddus.
Thanks for your comments about James Puller.Andrew Broaddus, in his history, mentions that Mary Broaddus married a Puller, but he apparently did not know his first name.
