Thanks for your thoughts on Cornelius, et al -- the more I hear, the more I think that I must be on the right track. If I can only find enough information / evidence to figure out WHICH of these SALE / SAYLE men is my "missing link"perhaps I will be able to make the definite connection.Every bit of information and any idea is a big help.
Do you know if the William SAYLE listed as a prisoner aboard the Forbay came from this VA/NC family? If so, do you know who his parents or other family members were?Or can you say that he definitely was NOT of this family?
I've also wondered if the SALE/S - SAIL/S mentioned in Hawkins Co, TN are related -- especially because supposedly my 4th great grandfather, William Erven SAYLE (SALE?) married an AMIS, perhaps named Hannah. This is based on a couple of mysterious notes (but no substance) in the information my grandmother & her sister had, long before I became interested in genealogy.
I'm also interested in the William SAYLE who was a member of the Cave Creek Church in Robertson Co, TN, but have not yet found information on him beyond that.
I very much appreciate your insights and help! This is one of my two main genealogy goals for this year -- and I do have hope that it can be accomplished.
