Consider this post by Leigh # 649,who has a marriage record of a William SALE and Nancy JENNINGS.Could very well be our William SALE...they were married 1752 in Wilkes Co NC. Had daughter Martha, who could well be the Patty listed in William's WILL of 1788.Patty..common nickname for Martha.
Here is her post and my reply.

I have received information that my g-g-grandfather, William Sale of Wilkes County, NC married Nancy Jennings 2-1-1852 in Iredell County, NC. They were married by E. Mitchell who was a Justice of the Peace. Their daughter, Martha, born 1857, was my g-grandmother. Does anyone have any information on this line?
Hello Leigh:
As far as I know, no one has proven a surname for the Nancy "Ann" who married William SALE born 1720/25 and
died 20 Oct 1788.This could well be one in the same William and Ann. That is the William who is son of William and Hannah SALE, son of Cornelius and Mary Samuel SALE, son of William SALE, the immigrant.
Here are names listed in William's WILL of Wilkes Co NC.
1787 Will of William Sale shows wife Ann and children, Cornelius, William, James,Robert, Leonard, John, Thomas,Elizabeth, Frances, Molly Martin, Patty Allen, Sally Robards and Peggy Grant. source: JMartin Family list of Wills.
Wiliam's son Cornelius was born around 1750-53, so with the marriage record you have this could be the same one.
The daughter listed as Patty ALLEN could well be the Martha you speak of.Patty and Patsy were common nicknames for Martha.
