The mention of a Leroy Pope Sale caught my attention.I have not seen this name before.
Cornelius Leroy Sale (born March 29, 1748 in Virginia, died 1808 in Georgia) married Jane Dawson, daughter of Joseph Dawson, in Amherst County, Virginia in October 1768.
The first child of Cornelius Leroy Sale and Jane Dawson Sale, Judith Sale (1769 - 1827), married Leroy Pope in Amherst County, Virginia in 1787.Leroy Pope and Judith Sale Pope moved to Huntsville, Alabama. (Their daughter, Matilda Pope, married John Williams Walker, father of Leroy Pope Walker. The family's biography appears well documented.)According to Dorothea Sale Goodman, at the bottom of page 23,nine more children were born to Cornelius Leroy Sale and Jane Dawson Sale, including a fifth child, named Leonard, for whom Dorothea Sale Goodman reports "no data."Dorothea does not show birth dates for the other children, but my records show the third child, my ancestor Lewis, was born August 4, 1773. No birth date is given by Dorothea for the fourth-listed child, Joseph, or the sixth-listed child, but other sources show Dudley Sale was born October 25, 1781.Given the position in the birth order reported by Dorothea, it would be plausible to tentatively hypothesize that this Leonard was born between 1773 and 1781.This birth date appears to be consistent with Barry Wood's calculation that the Leonard Sale in Logan and maybe Todd Counties would have been born no later than 1784.
Is it possible that Leonard Sale, son of Cornelius Leroy Sale and Jane Dawson Sale, and brother-in-law of Leroy Pope, is the same Leonard Sale who shows up in Kentucky with a son named Leroy Pope Sale?
