Hello from Webb, West Virginia.
Forgive me if I am incorrect, but I believe you are Lake Debriel's daughter. Nice to read another of your notes. You may not recall, but your Mom and Dad resided for a brief period at Peter Branch just above Webb back about 1964.
Bazilla (Aunt Bazz) and all of her siblings grew up here or across the river (Tug) in Lawrence County, KY.Most are buried here.
There is still a wealth of FIRST HAND knowledge about the family here in Webb. That knowledge is largely remembered by Emma Sammons and Bertha Salmons, widows of Joe and Frank (Ringtail) respectively.Joe was the son of Stan.Stan was the baby son of Franklin Pierce (Pierce) Salmons and Sarah Margaret (Chaffin) Salmons.Of course, your granddaddy, Roland (Ringtail Rolle) is Frank's dad.
As you see both of those widows are your close kin. They have visits almost every Sunday from people passing thru looking to renew old memories or renew old acquaintences.Hope you will visit soon.
Bertha and Emma are 80 year or older, so time is limited as to how long we will have them as a source of 1st hand recollection. They love to share their memories of days gone by.
Another nearby source is Mandie (O'Coolidge) Damron (age about 85) who was raised on Dragg Creek and now resides near Crum, WV.She has superb recall of all the Webb area and especially her Salmons family neighbors from her days growing up.That includes most all of Pierce's kids.
You also have Uncle Drexel living at Kenova. He has a pretty good memory about the family going back to Grandma Bates (Nancy Bates) Roland's wife. By the way there is an historical location on Baker Branch called the 'Bates Family Cabin' that I believe was the home place of your Great Grandmother Bates.
Of course, Roland was a grandson of Roland Salmons, Jr., who in turn was a son of Roland.Roland Jr. and Nancy Cox (2nd wife) were Franklin Pierce's parents.Frank also had a son named Roland who attended Crum High School, with whom I served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam. And his son is named Roland Franklin Salmons.
Roland Jr. and Nancy Cox are buried at the top of the hill on the Family Farm near the Salmons Cemetery at Baker Gap, Lawrence County, KY.
Pierce's son, Ringtail Roland and his wife Nancy are buried at Webb (Copley Cemetery), as are Stan & Jessie, and my Dad, Joe and many others including Aunt Annie (Bradley) and Aunt Nancy Jane (Vinson), both of whom were sisters of Bazz, Roland, Elizabeth (Williams), Tim, Joe, Stan--children of Roland & Sarah Margaret.Frank Ringtail and his son, Roland are also buried at Webb, along with many, many of our other relatives.
Interestingly, as to Pierce and Sarah Margaret, she resided during her last days with daughter, Nancy Jane (and husband Joe Vinson) at Nolan, WV; while, he resided with son, Stan (and wife Jessie) at Webb.Pierce is buried near the Baker Gap cemetery. I regret that I don't know where Sarah Margaret is buried.
Beth, I think our Great Uncles Tim and Joe are interred at different cemeteries in Logan County, WV. Tim (Roland named your Uncle Tim after him) was killed in a train/motor car collision in a Wayne County tunnel, while Joe (Stan named my Dad after him) died about 1950. Joe's widow Samantha moved to Baltimore shortly thereafter where they still reside. She and Joe have a son named Joseph, as well.
A family tidbit--as it happens, Stan's wife, Jessie (Waller) Salmons had a sister, Mintie, who married Sarah Margaret's brother, Henry Chaffin. That made Henry Chaffin both Stan's brother-in-law and uncle.
I'm thinking that Aunt Bazz was married to Joe Bradley and that they resided in the Logan area.
The remainer of the Family will be at the Copley Cemetery at Webb, on the first Sunday in September (every year for as long as I can remember and I'm 55) for the annual 'Dinner on the Ground.'Hope you, Lake Jr., Anna Gail and all will join us there. Please come.
Hello to Gussie and all of our other reader, too.
Very kind regards,
