I hope you still check this board. I have just recently discovered that I descend from Sarah Santee Teeter.
Here's my line:
Gen. 1: Sarah Santee Gen. 2: Levisa J. Teeter md. Andrew Harris Gen. 3: Mary Ellen Harris md. Robert Lee Davis Gen. 4: Effie Jane Davis md. William Frank Baker Gen. 5: Edith Mae Baker (my great-grandmother) Gen. 6: My grandmother Gen. 7: My mother Gen. 8: Me!
There have always been rumors that there was Indian blood somewhere along this line.
Since this is my strict maternal line, I did a mitochondrial DNA test. The results came back a couple of days ago. Sarah Santee's MATERNAL ancestry is strictly European. She belongs to Haplogroup H, which has been in Europe for the last 20,000 years.
There are several ways she could be Indian and it not show up on this test though.
1. Ancestry through her father's side of the family. 2. The father of her mother. 3. The father of her grandfather, etc.
I found a snippet on a page about Teeters that was interesting.
"If you are from the William Teater Sarah Santee you would be Croaton Lumbee and the people called Redbones from from NC to texas and possible Cherokee.."
