Hello. There is a Snowden Sargent buried in the Wood Cemetery in Vigo County, Indiana. He died May 9, 1837. Genealogy calculator has a birthdate of 14 Jan 1778. Also buried in the Wood Cemetery is Elizabeth (Sargent) Barnes, daughter of Snowden and Mary Heathman Sargent. I think maybe the Snowden Sargent buried ther and Elizabeth are brother and sister. Below is what I have in my notes: Feb. 19, 1835- Jonathan Wood buys land in Vigo Co., Otter Creek twp. from James and Elizabeth (Sargent) Barnes. Elizabeth Barnes was the daughter of Snowden and Mary (Heathman) Sargent. Elizabeth Sargent Barnes is buried in the Wood Cemetery in Vigo County, Indiana, Otter Creek twp. Elizabeth died Feb. 27, 1850 at 68 yrs. and 1 mo. Birthdate calculator computes birthdate as January 27, 1782. Marriage of James Barnes and Elizabeth Sargent: James Barnes Ohio Marriages, 1800-1958 spouse:Elizabeth Sergent marriage:20 Jan 1805 — Ross, Ohio record title:Ohio Marriages, 1800-1958 groom's name:James Barnes bride's name:Elizabeth Sergent marriage date:20 Jan 1805 marriage place:Ross, Ohio indexing project (batch) number:M02266-1 system origin:Ohio-EASy source film number:281637 Another record states "James Barns" married Elizabeth Sergent on Jan. 20, 1806 in Ross Co., OH. The 1850 Vigo Co., IN, Otter Creek twp. census states James Barnes as born in Virginia, 69 years old.. The 1860 census, James is living with daughter Julia Patrick who married George W. Patrick. James is 80 years old and his birthplace is stated as Pennsylvania. Further research shows that James was probably born in Virginia. Wife of James, Elizabeth Sargent, was born in Maryland.
I am researching my Wood family and am looking for a connection to my Wood family and the Sargents and/or Barnes. My 3rd-great-grandfather is Jonathan Wood born ca 1787 in Virginia. Jonathan died abt 1836 in Vigo Co., Indiana. Before he died he bought land from James and Elizabeth Sargent Barnes in Vigo Co. Feb. 19, 1835. Knowing these Sargents are buried in the Wood Cemetery named from my Wood family and Jonathan bought land from James and Elizabeth I know that there is a connection somewhere. I hope someone has a Wood in their genealogy that may help me in my research. Thank you, Carla
