There's mention of John BOWIE, surveyor as early as 1775.
I have noted 2 locations for a John BOWIE 1786 mortgage:
Long Cane Creek (Abbeville Co) (fl 1772 as Colleton Co) Golden Grove Creek (Greenville Co)
He seems to be associated with Thomas FARRAR, Edmond HOLLMAN & Capt TUTT.
He was gdn of children of Hugh KIRKWOOD -- Keowee R Coneross Creek.
BOWIE made a survey for Anna Maria MARSHAL in Aug 1784 adj Catherina OLIPHANT on Beaverdam Crk of Saluda River (this might be the creek of that name in Newberry Co).
In a 1796 Abbeville Co SC will for a KERR, John BOWIE is noted as Clerk of Court.
In 1800 Pendleton Co (Washington Dist) plat for Joseph HOGG on Richland Creek, one John BOWIE is ment'd.(This might be Greenville Co, later....)
There is a John BOWIE in Granville Co NC 1750's witnessing deeds for ALLEN, BENTON, COLSON, EATON, FULLER, GOWER, GREEN, HALE or HAILE, HALL, HAMPTON, HUGHES, JONES, SPIVEY, STEEL, WADE -- Grassy Crk, SMITHs Crk, TABBs Crk -- some ment'd as merchants.
Do you know with which religion Amos SATTERFIELD, Bedwell SATTERFIELD, et al, were affiliated?
Any comments about any of these possible associations will be greatly appreciated.
