Sorry it took ME so long to get back here! Ah, what is it with Real Life that makes it feel like it can interfere with genealogy research?;-)
I've done some more searching since the original post, and hopefully am getting on the right track.
I would be interested in hearing more about your info on this George, and why you think 'my' Jacob comes from the line of George Saum, if you'd be willing to fill me in on what you know.
After I posted the original message, I came across info online that seems to hint that Jacob was the son of Jacob and Elizabeth HEINTZLEMAN Saum, who are buried at Flohr's Lutheran Cemetery in Adams Co., PA, along with what may be other sibs to my Sarah Saum ... I wish I had access to more materials to help me verify this, or could get to the Gettysburg area in person :-(
BTW -- who was this Jacob (husband of Elizabeth H.) the son of? Matthias (son of Andreas?) and Madlena, perhaps?
My Sarah Saum ended up in Scott Co., IL, and apparently still strongly associated with cousins of hers from Adams Co., PA -- Jeremiah Jacob (J.J.) and Sarah (BLOCHER) OHLER -- the latter couple would apparently end their days in Umatilla Co., Oregon. Some of the Ohlers are buried in McCaleb Cemetery in Scott Co., IL, as is Margaret BENNER, 2nd wife of George Ohler and mother of Jeremiah, and she was originally of Mount Joy Twp. in Adams Co.
I am at this point wondering if it might not be possible (if not likely) that Sarah came to IL with the Ohlers (via a stint in the area of Ross/Pickaway Co., OH?). Both 'my' Sarah and Sarah Blocher Ohler were daughters of Mary and her sister Catherine BISHOP respectively, the latter who married John Blocher following the death of her sister Mary -- and the two Sarahs were only about 2-3 years of age in difference. So its making sense to me that these women were probably close and explains perhaps part of how Sarah Saum came to Illinois.
Sorry if the above is confusing, I can try to restate it better in private email, perhaps.
I'd love to get confirmation of either Jacob and Elizabeth as parents of Jacob Saum, or hear why you believe my Saums stem from George (I don't have any info at all on this George as a son of Andreas or otherwise, I don't believe). I'm not discounting your info -- not at all -- it's just I had nothing at all to point me in that direction, and would appreciate hearing more of what you may have found.
So if you (or anybody else here on the board!) can make connections or have further info you wouldn't mind passing on to me it'd be great to hear from you. I'd love to go more in-depth with researching these folks and their time in PA and perhaps OH too, before IL.
