I'm looking into the Sauter family of Lanesburgh Township in Le Sueur County, Minnesota. They came to the US from Prussia about 1851, lived in Le Sueur until at least 1880. My branch moved up to Pine County by 1900. Others went to St. Paul.
One family is: Joseph Sauter b. ~1830 in Prussia wife Elizabeth b.~1836 in Prussia children (all born in Minnesota): Matthias (~1857), Carl b. ~1859, Nicholas (my ancestor, b. Aug. 1860), Clara, Mary, Laura, Joseph, Frank. The parents died sometime between 1870 and 1880.
A family nearby I think is related--Joseph and Peter Sauter being brothers, I believe: Peter Sauter b. ~1825 in Prussia (he was a Union soldier in the US Civil War, 10th Minnesota Inf.) wife Catherine b. ~1823 in Prussia children Margaret b. ~1850 in Prussia, John b. ~1852 in Wisconsin, Ellen b. Wisconsin, Anna b. ~1858 in Minnesota, maybe more.
Nicholas Sauter (my greatgrandfather) married a Bohemian, Francesca Kincel, about 1893. They moved to rural Pine County near Pine City. (lots of other names from the LeSueur census pages are very familiar to me as being also Pine County names)
Are any of these people familiar? Does anyone know if Joseph and Peter Sauter are brothers? What might have killed the parents, Joseph and Elizabeth and when? Do you know if they were Catholic or Lutheran?
