The 1870 census for Maumee Township, Allen County, Indiana lists the family as Ben Hammilton who is 44, Ida 46, Marry 14, Eclede 12, Armstrong, 10, Actora 8 and Danneldo 5.This is right on the Ohio, Indiana border.
I would like to identify and trace her lineage back further, as well as locate information on where, when the children were born in Canada.
There is a family story handed down for about 3 generations at least; that there was a conflict with a stepfather who was beating up the mother, the sons beat him up and fearing that they had killed him they left the area, changing their names. The surname of Langlois is mentioned in this story. This is a mystery that I would love to be able to prove or disprove.I don't know if it is a dit name or not.
