Mike,I wonder if you can possibly tell me what happened to the Nathan SAVORY/Elizabeth NYE family in Rochester MA, between 1770 and 1783.
I understand that immediately after the Revolutionary War, Nathan Savory moved from Rochester MA to Digby, NS; and started a new life there. [2nd Wife, then 12 children!]
Was he forced to leave the USA?
Were they divorced? If so, when, and did she remarry?
Did Nathan simply abandon his family in MA?
Had Elizabeth perhaps died before he left?
If so, who took care of their 5 young children after 1783? [I understand that all but Aaron eventually married.]
I've never been able to find out what happened to his first wife, Elizabeth, after she gave birth to their youngest son Aaron. I find no death date, or place, for her.
I learned that Nathan had changed his mind about war - and supporting the revolution - AFTER he had fought in the Continental Army at Ticonderoga and Crown Point in 1775. AND that he had become a pacifist. Meanwhile, practically all his NYE inlaws had served in the Continental Army; which might have been a GOOD reason to leave. I've found no proof or even a "family story" to follow regarding this series of events.
Please share whatever you might know about this, in order to help me clear up this mystery. [I'm a descendent of Nathan's Canadian family, by the way.]
Thanks, Tor Welch
