I just recently learned that a gr-grandfather of mine, Isaac Savoy, and his wife, Martha, were early settlers of Somerset County, Maryland, having arrived there in 1671.He and his wife were given headrights (land patents?) as new immigrants. In 1673, Isaac was named a justice of the court at Whorekill (present Lewes, DE).In 1675, he married Brita Hendrickson and lived at One Tree Hook in what is now Salem County, NJ.He was naturalized by William Penn.Evidently Martha died sometime between 1671 and 1675.Isaac died in 1695, leaving his wife, Brita, and six children, the four youngest under the age of 13.
Isaac is believed to be the same Isaac Savoy who was born in 1617 on Threadneedle Street in London (the French Huguenot section). He was the sone of Joshue and Madeleine Savoy who were French Huguenots.
Does anyone know Martha's maiden name, or have any info on this family? Please e-mail me direct as I don't often get to this site.
