My wife's maiden name was Dulcie Saxon whose background I am researching. We have struck a block with her Grandfather in England,Goerge Saxon.
The sketchy information we have is that George was born in 1858 (we think in Whitstable, Kent): married Ella Halliday (11 Jan 1883 in Cromwell, New Zealand);died )(13 Oct 1916 Otago, NZ). His parents were James Saxon and Sarah Commer. We understand that James was a sailmaker/pilot in Whitstable.
We don't know when, or how George came to New Zealand. Of James and Sarah we have no information other than their names. Theories only: James could have piloted ships round from the English Channel to the Thames, or sailed further as a navigator.
Can anyone help with information about these elusive Saxons?
