Definitely a pain.I have Bakers who were also Beckers, Hummes who were also Hummers (and about three other spellings), Stulls who are somehow related to Stahls, Stephens who flip back and forth to Stevens, and Odins who become Odens. Then there is the Culbertson, Culberson, Culverson, Culbert line.About the only names in my lines that remain stable are Hill and Church.Guess the English-speaking census takers couldn't miss those. Oh yeah - and there is that strange German thing where first names and middle names keep flipping around in documents.John Peter Scheidt was sometimes John and sometimes Peter (and once was even a Johann) - I thought maybe he was his own father for a while.
