I'm not related in any way to this family, but am trying to solve a mystery. Edward Gilbert Schermerhorn, b. probably 1870's in Wyckoff, New Jersey. He married Charlotte Tiedemann Ditzler (divorced from artist Hugh W. Ditzler), New York City, December 7, 1920. This couple would have been a little beyond middle age when they married, so they would not have had children together.
Here's my mystery: There were two fairly prolific illustrators in the early 1900's: Hugh W. Ditzler, and Charlotte Weber-Ditzler. I have been unable to find any biographical information on Charlotte Weber-Ditzler, and I suspect that it is a pen name. It seems awfully coincidental that Hugh's ex-wife also was Charlotte.
Does anyone have a connection to Edward Gilbert Schermerhorn that may hold a clue?
