Schexnayder Origins(Scheckscneider)?
Hello to all Schexnayders
I have two genealogies which go back to Heinrich Albert Schexnayder. One I received from Paul Schex. in Atlanta and one a cousin gave us last year. They both go back to this Heinrich Albert
Schexnayder who is buried in St Charles Parish 1/4/1776.
According to Paul in Atlanta, Albert is supposed to have been on the ship La Garonne in 1721. His father(Hans Rienhard), mother(Catherine) and brother(Jacob) were put ashore at Brest and Lannion, France due to illness and died. The name on the passenger list was spelled Jean Reinhard CHNEYDER,with wife and 2 children and they were believed to be from Friderichsort(Germany?or Belgium?) On the list of persons put ashore due to illness it is spelled CHEZNAIDRE. The Garonne continued its journey, was captured by pirates and landed in Santo Domingo, some say it never made it to LA. Some say they did, I believe we would not have these lists if they had NOT made it to LA.(I found the lists printed in a book, "The First Families of LA, Vol.II 1970 by Glenn R Conrad).
While Hans(Jean), Catherine and Jacob are listed by name, Heinrich Albert is not. It is assumed he was one of the two children. I also checked out lists from the other 3 ships that came to N.O. but found no names that could match up to or be corrupted to Schexnayder, no matter how it is spelled).
The second genealogy I have has my family descended from the same Heinrich Albert but with different parents(Simon and Anna Marie Vesdroy) and I am still trying to verify this difference or determine if Simon was actually Hans R and Anna Marie was Catherine.
I have found another list in same book which is a list of Landowners dated after 1731. One Albert SCGNEIDER was in possession of approx 4 acres of land on the Westbank of the Miss. upriver from N.O.
What seems to be the case (in spite of the difference in names of the Parents of Albert), is that Paul's ancester and my ancester were brothers and children of Heinrich Albert.
I hope this has piqued your interest and not caused more confusion. Next time I am in N.O. I will write down the names of some reference materials and pass it along. The list of my ancesters is quite extensive and some names may match some you are looking for, e-mail me direct if you are looking for a particular name and I'll check my list and send you what I have.
Happy Hunting, Lynn
