I am looking for information on John D. Schick and Rosina (Fischer) Schick who came to the USA from Germany in the 1850's and eventually settled in Peru, La Salle County, Illinois. They were my great-great-grandparents.John came to the USa in 1858, and Rosina came to the USA in 1853.
I have found John and Rosina living on a farm in Eden Township, La Salle County, Illinois in the 1870 U.S. Census, and I have found them in the 1880 and 1900 U.S. Censuses living on Main St. (near State St.) in Peru, Illinois.I believe they were married in 1864, and as of 1900, they had 12 children, 11 of whom were still living. In 1900, John Schick was a Justice of the Peace in Peru, Illinois.Rosina Schick died in 1907, and John Schick died in Chicago in 1929.In the 1920 U.S. Census John Schick is listed being 75 years old and was living with his oldest daughter Theresia (Schick) Raymond in the Woodlawn neighborhood in Chicago.
I would like to know from where in Germany John D. Schick and Rosina Fischer originated, and any information on where they lived prior to La Salle County in 1870.
Their daughter Mary Elizabeth (also known as Amelia) Shick, born in 1877, was my great-grandmother.She married William Beyers, Jr. and lived on the Southside of Chicago until her death in 1948.
I figure that given that they had 11 children, there's got to be somebody else out there readng this who is related to the Schicks besides myself!
