I made an interesting discovery recently while researching my father's maternal ancestry line.His mother's maiden name was Harriett Dexheimer, b. 1903, Hoboken, NJ, d. 1999, East Moriches, LI, NY.Her mother was Maria Magdalena Rosenthal, 29 Apr 1862 in Alzey, in what is now Germany, d. 6 Feb 1944, Hoboken, NJ.Maria's father was Martin Julius August von Rosenthal, b. 13 Aug 1836, Seesen, Neidersachsen, married Fredericka Greisfelter 1853 in Germany.In researching this von Rosenthal line, I discovered the following line of ancestry, starting with the father of Martin:
August Friederich Julius von Rosenthal, b. 25 Feb 1806, Wolfenbuettel, Braunschweig, Niedersachsen, married Johanna Ehlers;
Johann Gottfried Conrad von Rosenthal, b. ca. 1770 Wolfenbuettel, married Johanna Linsenhoff.
Johann Adolph Schleicher von Rosenthal, b. 7 Feb 1752, Stolberg, Niedersachsen, married Mechtilda Peltzer;
Mattias Schleicher, b. 17 Sep 1723, Stolberg, m Mechtildis Peltzer.....It appears here that Mattias's son, Johann obtained some kind of title "von Rosenthal", and Johann's descendants dropped Schleicher and adopted von Rosenthal.
Leonhard Schleicher, b. 15 Jun 1693, Stolberg, married Ida Hupperts;
Mathias Schleicher, b. Oct 1663, Stolberg, married Gertrud Lynen;
Leonhard Schleicher, b. ca. 1625, Stolberg, married Sibylla Pelzer;
Leonhard (der Junge) Schleicher, b. ca. 1590, Aachen, Neidersachsen, married Catharina Schleicher;
Leonhard (der Alte) Schleicher, b. ca. 1561, Aachen, married Catherina Herberodt;
Leonhard Schleicher, b. ca. 1536, Aachen, married Maria Megre;
Godart Schleicher, b. ca. 1510, Aachen, married Gerturd van der Channen;
Anton Slicher, b. ca. 1475, Aachen
Does anyone have any information on this von Rosenthal/Schleicher line or any knowledge of what this might all mean?I know "von" mean of or from.But I have also heard that it is some sort of title.Some of the Schleicher siblings to my direct line did use the "designation" von Schleicher.
Any information will be helpful.
