Thanks for the reply. The only reference in my Pierce Piano Atlas of 1982 to a company in NY is "Schleicher, George, 12th St & Second Av, NYC. Company established 1862, also made Knorr Pianos. The actual serial numbers listed in my book are for pianos built in the years 1902 through 1906.
If George was of the same family as my former instrument, I wonder if one or more of his sons (or perhaps nephews) set up a business in Stamford after 1906 ? Perhaps it was not financially viable and closed after just a few years.
My atlas has no reference at all to Padelski, so your grandfather's company was not re-named for him.
I haven't been to NYC since 1988, but it would be interesting to check out old business records to see what became of George Scheicher's company at 12th St & Second Av.
