Hey, Paul!I just last night found our people! They arrived in New York sometime between June-Aug 1847, aboard the ship "Sweden".The surname is spelled Schmiddt, but it is our family.Anton, Catharina, Nickolas, Jean (we called him John, but Catherina's dad was Jean), Adolphus (middle name of Anton Jr., I think), Mar't (this is Margaret, and she was really 14 rather than 10, but maybe looked younger), and Pierre (he used the name Peter - his mother can be found in his household in the 1870 census, Washington Co WI).
Found this goody on www.FamilySearch.com, from database "Passenger Lists of Vessels arriving at New York, 1820-1897".The source is 992 pages long - I have yet to skim through the whole thing!
