Stephen,
You had a question about Eastloft.Eastoft (no ''L") is a parish in the Isle of Axholme in the far northwest corner of Lincolnshire. On 25 Sept. 1855, the parish was formed out of parts of the parishes of Adlingfleet (in Yorkshire) and Crowle (in Lincolnshire). Technically, the parish is only partly in the Isle of Axholme. It is about halfway between Crowle and Adlingfleet.
Eastoft parish sits east of the old river Don about three miles northeast of Crowle and 9 miles southeast of Goole.
The west side of the main street in Eastoft village is in Yorkshire. The east side is in Lincolnshire. It was in Humberside during the short life of that county.
ADLINGFLEET is the furthest east parish-town in the West Riding of the county of York. It is right where WRY, ERY and Lincolnshire meet. It is 8 miles SE. of Howden, 8 from Crowle (Linc.) 17 from Snaith, 28 from York. In 1820, the population was 256.
I am a ggg grandson of Thomas Scholey and his second wife Elizabeth Cook Parish. I am descended through his son, Charles BAILEY Scholey.
Do you know where the family name of Bailey came from, it is certainly prevalent in several different lines?
I was also wondering if you are aware of the family name of SMITH in connection with these Scholeys. When Thomas' will was written (4 Jan 1861), he was waiting for a "Check" from Eng. This was an inheritance from "UNCLE WILLIAM SMITH"
