just fyi, our g-gf was Fred Baker who lived in Preble County, before eventually settling in Athens OH.
Family records indicated he was an orphan from NY sent to Preble County in 1860's. He lived with Samuel and Mary Reeve.
1870, Sommers Township, Preble County Ohio census: Samuel Reeve, 43, b OH, farmer w, Mary, 36, b NY FREDERICK, 8, b NY
1880, Preble County Ohio census: Samuel Reeve, 53, b OH, parents b NJ/NJ, farmer w, Mary A, 46, b NY, parents born NY/PA FREDERICK BAKER, 17, b NY, parents birthplace not shown George Butterworth, 78, b England, father-in-law, occupation weaver Mary Butterworth, 78, b PA, mother-in-law
Tracing an orphan from NY, who came to OH at young age in 1860's with a common name like Fred Baker is very tough. Might be some link to Mary, wife of Samuel Reeve, since Mary was born NY, by census records.
