Anyone related to these people? Benjamin Scouten,b: 1857,was the father,Viola Chapin, the mother. Some were born on the Onondaga Indian Reservation, some in Truxton,NY. Harvey and Benjamin Robert are listed as the first two born. Harvey,1882, and Benjamin, 1890. He died in 1977. There were thirteen children in all. In 1910, four were placed in the Cortland Children's Home,(Edward,Mary,Harry, and Charles). Harvey and Benjamin may have gone to the George Junior Republic school. Cannot find Benjamin Sr.'s father or mother, nor Viola's. On a 1920 census, it says these facts are unknown. It is also amazing how many indians turned white in the late 1800's and early 1900's. It is just what our government had in mind. My grandmother, clear into her early seventies was afraid to say where she came from. To this day, I remember her whispering to me at my baby shower what tribe she was from and I forgot. Now, I am having such a hard time finding her heritage, but find her I will!
