Hi All-
I just received a copy of the death certificate for Sarah Schouten Bowdish that I mentioned in my original post above. This is from 1906 in Lansing, Michigan. It said that she was born July 8, 1825 in New York and that her parents were Jesse Schouten and Mary Hoyt, both also born in New York.
I did find a Jesse and Mary Schouten living next door to Morris Bowdish and his bride Sarah Schouten Bowdish in the 1850 US Census for Freetown, Cortland Co, New York. So, I believe I am on the right track.
Looking around on ancestry.com, I have also seen links to Jesse's parents as Daniel Schouten of NY, born 1764/died 1835 and Lydia La Due, born at some unknown date but died about 1845. Their birthplaces are listed as NY on the 1880 census of their son Jess Schouten. I have seen other Schouten/La Due connections also posted here which makes me suspcious that this is correct. Other children of Daniel and Lydia are Joseph (1786-), Gilbert (1788-), Simon (1790-), Uriah (1792-), Mary (1795-), Stephen (1798-1875), Isaac (1801-), and Abigail (1808-)
The parents of Daniel Schouten come up at Andris Schouten and Elizabeth Linnebeck. There are no birthdates/places.
Can anyone confirm this lineage, or does anyone have more information? Any help would be appreciated.
