Yes, Jesse is the son of Daniel Schouten & Lydia Ladue. Daniel was baptized September 9, 1764 in the Reformed Dutch Church of Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York. Although transcribed copies of his baptism show Elizabeth Linnebeck as his mother, my mother and I do not agree. There is no marriage record for an Andris Schouten and Elizabeth Linnebeck; however, there are marriage records for Andries (Andrew) T. Schouten and his cousin, Grietje (Margaret) Schouten and for Andries J. Schouten and Abigail Wood. Also, the only Elizabeth (Betty) Linnebeck in the church records is married to a Linnebeck. We believe Elizabeth was the sponsor (not the mother) at Daniel's baptism. In Dutch churches, it was not unusual for another woman to stand in for the mother if the mother was not able to attend the baptism. We have seen other records transcibed incorrectly where this has occurred. By October 1786, Andrew T. Schouten and Daniel Schouten both appear in the tax records of Half Moon, Saratoga (previously Albany) County, New York. Later, Andrew T. Schouten's younger son, Uriah, also appears in Half Moon records. Therefore, we believe Daniel is the son of Andrew T. Schouten and Margaret Schouten. Andrew and Margaret were members of the Amity Reformed Church, Vischers Ferry, New York by 1806 (their son Uriah was also a member of this church). Andrew and Daniel are listed near each other in the 1800 Federal Census. Andrew's son Uriah (and his family) are living with Andrew & his wife. By the 1810 Federal Census, Andrew & Uriah are listed next to each other. Both Daniel & Uriah's descendants tend to use the same family names. If interested, we have Andrew & Margaret Schouten's parents and grandparents.
