Thanks for your post. I see where some confusion exists. The cemetery you refer to I would have thought was the Smithtown Cemetery. I last visited it on October 4, 1995 and have photos of the graves of Ephraim Schouten and his wife Sarah (LaDue) Schouten. This is the cemetery at the corner or near the corner of Smithtown and Vosberg Roads I believe.
I have some confusion regarding the Old Smithtown Cemetery. And I could never find a stone for William, Hannah, and Maria Schouten.
I saw in a handwritten manuscript located at the library in Ballston Spa, NY a list of internments for what was referred to as the Rosencrans Lot. And the three of them are listed there.
it appears that the cemetery I visited is not the same cemetery as the one you are referring to and I will note the address and see if I cannot visit there in the spring. Did you actually SEE THE STONE marked William, Hannah, Maria?
By the way, I have an old tintype photo of the Wedding of Hannah Schouten to Walter Nathan Canfield. On the photo are pictures of Sarah Schouten Canfield, Hannah Schouten Canfield and Maria Schouten. Along with Jewett and Walter N. Canfield. I can send you a copy if you wish it although I would need to locate it. Thank you.Bill Canfield
