I am looking for information tracing back the Schubert lineage that has developed in Asia. This is all I know about my branch of the tree. (I have not mentioned sisters/cousins or uncles.)
MALAYSIA Joss Alexander Schubert2001 - son of Niel Franklin Schubert1967 - Anna (Greaves) son of Arthur Franklin Schubert1933 - 1995 Christa Friedelore (Mielke) son of Eric Lionel Schubert1904 - 1966 Anita (Sison) son of Alexander Schubert and (?) He also remarried after first wife's death. His first wife was a Dutch Burgher (half-caste) from Ceylon from which my line developed. He arrived in Malacca,Malaysia in 1907, moving to the capital Kuala Lumpur in the 1930's where the Schuberts continue to thrive.
points of interest: Eric Lionel Schubert, being a govt. civil servant(postmaster of the Kuala Lumpur P.O.) and eurasian, was interned by the Japanese Imperial Army and forced to work on the Siamese - Burma Railroad during WWII(see Bridge over the River Kwai) He spent 2yrs as a slave labourer. Tormented by his ordeal he sought solace from the bottle. (Killed in a car crash 1966.) His two young sons Arthur(11) and Donald(9)were forced into Japanese school during his absence and spent most of the war years carving buttons from coconut shells to sell, and otherwise stealing food from Jap military camps to feed the family. Arthur Franklin Schubert joined the Army and was trained at Sandhurst Military College, England. He spent 2 yrs as a UN Peacekeeper in the Belgian Congo (now Democratic Republic of,..) and told a story of an Italian UN flight crew accused of dropping bombs, not relief supplies, being forcefully taken at gunpoint from the UN compound by a large armed group africans. Once the UN had mobilised a rescue party it was daylight and they found that the Italians had been butchered and the meat was being sold. He found pieces of the man he had shared drinks with a few hours earlier hanging from meathooks. His nightmares finally ceased 17 years later. He was also Malaysia's first Military Attache to Japan (1970-1972). He retired a Lt. Colonel (Signals). He was also Malaysian Amatuer Golf Champion 1987, aged 54.
