Mel, I realize your post is years old, but thought I'd take a chance. Your Schucks may be related to mine, which I have very little information on. Maybe you can help?
Here is the information that I know is fact: Mazy Vera Shook (my great grandmother) was the daughter of: Byron Shook and Elizabeth Zane Eller, who lived in Grove,Davis, Iowa. Elizabeth Zane Eller was in a wheelchair most of her life because of arthritis, and yet, she lived into her 90s.
Mazy later married my great grandfather, William Hale Gray. They lived in Downing, Missouri. They had several children, including my grandmother, Hazel Gray, who lived in Memphis, Mo.
We know for a fact that there was a Gibson in my mother's maternal line. (My mother married a Gibson and there was some jokes among family that he may turn out to be a long long cousin. LOL) For that reason, we are pretty sure that Byron's father was the John Shook, who married Mazy Gibson and a had several children including one named Byron.
After this, there is little I can find to be fact. It's all speculation. I believe John Shook is the son of Jacob Shook, who married a woman named Elizabeth, and Jacob is the son of Johannes Schuck whose wife was Elizabeth Ohl. I am not sure which generation had the name Schuck changed to Shook.
Please contact me if you have any information -- speculation or proof -- that could help me track down that line of my family.
