Irene Schuller Eaton passed away on May 17, 2001 in Issaquah, WA.Irene Clara Schuller was born on June 22, 1915 in Prince Rupert, B.C.At the age of 5, she moved from Chicago, IL to Ventura, CA with her family. Irene attended and graduated from the Ventura Schools up through Ventura Jr. College.In 1935, Irene married a native Venturan, Lewis D. Eaton. They have one daughter, Caroline Eaton-Lish.
Irene was known for her talent in civic and social clubs.She loved to plan fund-raisers, rummage sales, dances, etc.Irene was past President ofSoroptomist Club, the 1st Mate to Ship Mates of Ventura Yacht Club, and President of the Women's Group Chamber ofCommerce of Ventura.
In 1951, Irene and Lewis started the first swimming school in Ventura County.With the assistance of their daughter, Caroline, they taught swimming lessons and coached competitive swim teams in local and state wide meets, including the Jr. Olympics in L. A.The school remained open until Caroline taught the last lesson in the late 1960's.In the 1970's, Irene and Lewis also owned and operated an a antique store in Ventura, "Eaton's Out of Sight."
After 63 years in Ventura, Irene and Lewis moved to Lake Chelan, WA for a change in climate and scenery.Chelan was the small hometown of their son-in-law, Monty C. Lish (former County Executive of Ventura County, 1972-1979).Irene continued to be active in her clubs and antiques business until 1996 when illness brought her to live near her family in Issaquah, WA.
Irene is survived by: her husband, Lewis D. Eaton of Kirland, WA, DaughterCaroline Eaton-Lish and her husband Monty Lish of Issaquah, WA,Grandson, Monty E. Lish and his wife Shelley of Kirkland, WA, Granddaughter, Alexandria Lish-Simpson and her husbandShell of Boise, ID, Granddaughter, Amanda Lish-Owens and her husband Michael ofIssaquah, WA,Nieces,Lodema Flory Paschal and Irene Flory Turner of Ventura, CA, Diane Schuller Hatley of Mesa, AZ and Nikki Schuller Purcell of Provo, UT
A family celebration of Irene's life will be held on her birthday, June 22, 2001, in Bellevue, WA.
