We believe that my great great grandfather Jochim Runge, born 5th September, 1836 in Kellinghusen, Schleswig-Holstein (part of Denmark until 1866) and who emigrated to Australia in 1857 for the Victorian goldrush, had at least one brother and one sister who emigrated to the USA and lived in the Davenport, Iowa area. Family descendants in Australia have recently found photos taken in photographic studios of "Gustav Dahms" and "Huebinger Bros." of Davenport, Iowa. One photo is marked on the back as "Grandfather Runge's sister Mrs. Schwenk". When Jochim's mother Margaretha died in Kellinghusen on 1st September, 1844, her surviving daughters are shown as Gretsham(Mary?),Anna, Catherina and Lena (presumably Helena). When his father Johann died on 1st March, 1848, his surviving daughters are shown as Mary, Anna and Catherina. By deduction, I believe we are looking for a Gretsham (or Mary), or Anna, or Catherina Schwenk (nee Runge). Can anyone help? Her brother/s living nearby would have been Abel and/or Asmus Runge. The timing is probably in the window of 1850 - 1870.
