I'm putting info into the computer on this wing of the family, & these are a few crumbs along the way:
It seems to me that Sylvanus Sr. b1810 had 3 wives: 1-Mary "Polly" (Ables?) b abt 1820 2-Julie/July A. b abt 1823 3-Susan Ann/Anna Burnett b abt 1836, marr. Apr 11, 1871
This last marriage of a Sylvanus to Susan Ann in Cobb Co. seems like Sylvanus Sr to me, because his son, Sylvanus Jr only ever had 1 wife, Mary Frances Dunn, & I know of no other Sylvanus who could have been in this marriage. On the 1880 Cobb census, Syl's wife is called "Anna" & I think it's this 3rd wife, by whom I don't think he had children. If anyone has info on Julie's maiden name or anything else, please share, especially if you think you know which, if any children are her's.
As far as Syl's 1st wife Mary/Polly goes, I may have turned up something. Again-please share if you have info on her. I see her as the head of household on the 1860 Marietta, Cobb Co. census, with Sylvanus not there, & her with the children. Either Flora, age 2 is the youngest, or Cicero, age 1 month, unless that's a grandchild.
There is a Mary Scoggins, right age & from SC, which is right, living in Atlanta, Fulton Co. on the 1880 census with daughter Flora, shown 18 yr old. I believe this is Sylvanus' 1st wife. She calls herself a widow. Furthermore, the Atlanta City Directory for 1879 & 1887 (probably other years between)list a Mary Scoggins who is listed as "widow of Sylvanus". This is not completely true, for though she may have wished Sylvanus dead, she had not entirely succeeded by 1879, tho he was dead by 1887. At any rate, she might have simply called herself a widow.
The 1900 Buckhead, Fulton Co. census shows a Mary C. Scoggins, right age & from SC, living in the county poorhouse. Could this be Sylvanus' wife?
