Hi all, grandfather was Eugene David Seabrook born in New York City, 1916-1973, married to Winifred Joseph born 1916 in Roseau, Dominica. Trying to trace our family history, however it is hard to put together since he was orphaned at a young age and we know very little about his family. Seems we are related to the South Carolina Seabrooks. According to his birth certificate, his father Was also named Eugene Seabrook, born in South Carolina. Father's age at the time of birth was 40, so he would have been born in 1875-1876. He married Laura Walker, born in Virginia also born n 1875-1876. We are not sure when they came to New York City, but clearly it was some time prior during or prior to 1916. Any info out there? As I've been learning, ours is quite the interesting family history with British roots. Interestingly enough, we also have British roots on my grandmother's side. It would be interesting to learn we are decended from slave owners as we are black =). However as I understand many slaves took the names of their masters and headed north. This might explain why most New York area Seabrooks are black. Heck, we're probably all related up here =) Any info would be great, thanks everyone.
