Sorry it has taken me years to reply!I just looked at GenForum for the first time in, well, obviously a long time...and I was very excited to see your post.I sent you an email, but it seems your address may have changed??
I had Marilla as the possible mother, but that's about it.Obviously you have provided me with a wealth of info. What I can tell you is that Alma A Seaver was adopted by neighbors whose family name was Clapp (Clap at the time), and Alma also adopted that name. The circumstances surrounding the adoption are not fully understood."The story I heard" was that both of Alma's parents died. However, in 1991 my grandmother had a letter from a member of the Clapp family which included a photocopy of the original adoption paper (!).On this, it states Elijah Seaver was the sole surviving parent of Alma and Abby, BOTH of whom were adopted by the Clapps.Email for more info, or if you want a copy of the copy (of the copy).
Alma A Seaver Clapp married Aretus L Denison b 1/12/1844 d 11/2/1907 (I believe the L is for Livingston(e)).Aretus was the son of George Boardman Denison (father Benadam Denison) and Elizabeth Woodard (connection here to Halifax Center, Vermont is another avenue I am trying to pursue).
Date and place of Alma's marriage to Aretus is unknown...I am sure it was in Franklin County, Massachusetts, an area with which I am somewhat familiar.Anywho, children of Alma (Seaver Clapp) and Aretus Denison were
-Elizabeth Lillian Denison (1874-1922), never married -Alta Jerua Denison (1877-1951), never married (Jerua was the name of George Boardman Denison's 2nd wife...) -Marion Denison aka "Old Aunt Marion" who I am too young to remember but everyone else does (1878-Sept 18, 1976) -Melvin Aretus Denison (1879-1966) (more on him in a minute) -George Clapp Denison (1882-1953) who married Anna H Ummer and had children John, Francis, and Elizabeth (all of whom I have met; the latter 2 are still living) -Elva Denison (1887-1927) who married Clifford Weatherhead (no children...I don't think) and -Carl Raymond "Spike" Denison (1890-1956), never married
Melvin Aretus Denison married Nettie Tower Davis in March 1914, and their only child, my grandmother, Genevieve Elizabeth Denison (who currently lives a stone's throw from the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne Falls, MA), was born in 1918.
That's the scoop!Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in more info.Sounds like we have Seaver relatives in common!!
