Hi, there is a Vachel Sevier/Severe ancestor in my family tree.According to the 1850 and 1860 censuses, he was born about 1828-1830.I found a marriage record in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, for his marriage to Harriet Ann Stockett on 8 Apr 1856.
I also found a reference to this marriage in "Sevier family history: with collected letters of Gen. John Sevier, first Governor of Tennessee, and 28 collateral family lineages," by Cora Bales Sevier, Nancy Sawyer, and Sevier Madden (N. S. Madden, 1961), Google Books, www.books.google.com, Page 498. Gives marriage date and names of Vachel Sevier and Harriet Ann Stockett.
My father is a Stockett, but I have been unsuccessful in linking Harriet Ann to the rest of the Anne Arundel County Stockett line.Nor have I found anything linking Vachel to the rest of his family, which is numerous and widespread in Maryland from 1658 on.
I did find on a map that shows landowners a reference to Mrs. Severe (no first name) as a property owner in 1860.It is at this website:

Search for Severe and then click on her name to see the map of where she owned land in District 2 of Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
I also found a few references to a spouse named Mary.Maybe he had more than one marriage. If you know anything about these two people, please let me know.Although interested in the Stockett side of the family, my mother (who is 93) talked of Vachel as being on her side of the family. Her father was a Tolson, and her mother was born a Ward.
