I am trying to determine who were the parents of my Great-Grandmother, Harriet Pritchett Henry. In hopes of establishing a link, I am forwarding the following information.I have garnered this material from varied sources and consider it to be subject to revision.
Harriet was born Abt. Dec., 1845 in Tennessee, and died 28 Dec., 1922 in Tiger Township, Creek County, Oklahoma.
Harriet married first: Lewis W. Shelton, 26 Dec. 1858 in Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas. They had two children: John Marion Shelton, born 1859 in Arkansas and died, 1925 in Ranger, Texas. And, Laura Shelton, born 1862 in Texas.
Lewis never returned from the Civil War.They never knew if he was killed, relocated or what.
Anyway, Harriet married Allen (Asa) Lee Sexton on 18 January, 1866 in Grimes County, Texas.I have Asa being born in 1839 in Georgia. He died 1913 in Oklahoma. They had eight children.I have all of their names.Asa was also a veteran of the Confederacy. I have been told that his father was a Doctor and am in possession of an ancient set of tooth-pullers that he used to pull teeth during the Civil War.Doctors pulled teeth at that time.
I would be grateful for any help in identifying the parents of Harriet or for any information about Asa for that matter.I am particularly interested in how the Pritchett fit into her name.I would also like to know if the stories about her Creek Indian Heritage are true and how it came about.I will be glad to share such information as I have .
