After 2 years of research I have not got any further with details regarding my Great Grandfather, William Arthur Seymour. He was born c. 1864 in Newfoundland (the birth year differs slightly between the 1891 -1911 Census Records) He does not appear in UK records prior to 1891.
I have contacted the GRO here in the UK with regard to his birth certificate, however they cannot trace it. I have researched endless Canadian web sites but to no avail. At some unknown point he returned/ moved to West Bromwich. In 1886, he married Emily Martha Brown and re-married in 1904 to a Sarah Withington. He died in 1916 in Leeds Infirmary as a result of war wounds and is buried in Harehills cemetery in the city. His second marriage certificate lists his father's name as William, his profession being a soldier. He is listed as being deceased at the time of the marriage. I believe he was born in 1840.
Various ideas have been proposed as to where his origins could be in terms of documentation (too numerous to note here) but all have never come to any fruition. This is and has been a major headache in my research. CAN ANYONE HELP?? -I have a photograph of him in his military uniform (North Staffs regiment)but do not see a way of attaching it to this message
